Emily S. Kowalski, MD

Dr. Emily S. Kowalski joined Radiation Oncology Associates in 2022. She is experienced in treating all cancer disease sites with a variety of treatment modalities but has a special interest in innovative approaches to breast, gynecologic and head and neck malignancies and radiation of benign and malignant primary and secondary brain tumors. Emily is also particularly interested in how radiation can be utilized to reduce pain and suffering from both cancer and benign diseases such as osteoarthritis.

Dr. Kowalski completed her training at the University of Maryland School of Medicine she served as Chief Resident and stayed on as faculty serving as Assistant Professor and Medical Director of the practice’s Eastern Shore Requard Radiation Center in Easton, Maryland. While there she brought access to the University’s successful clinical research program to patients on the Eastern Shore of Maryland and Delaware.

Her research efforts have focused on implementing advanced treatment technologies, improving treatment efficacy and decreasing side effects. She has published her work in peer-reviewed journals and received awards for her presentations from the American Society for Radiation Oncology and the Society for Thermal Medicine.

Prior to pursuing a second career in medicine, Dr. Kowalski earned a Bachelor of Science from the Tulane University Freeman School of Business. A certified public accountant, she spent her early career as a financial consultant for a top-tier firm supporting multi-national companies through financial and litigation hardships. Her decision to change career paths and pursue radiation oncology was made while caring for a close family member with cancer.

A native of the Northeast, in her free time Emily enjoys skiing and watching her two boys play hockey. Most recently she is learning to sail.
