Cheng-Chia "Fred" Wu, MD, PhD

Dr. Cheng-Chia (Fred) Wu, MD, PhD is a board-certified radiation oncologist with a clinical interest in adult and pediatric central nervous system tumors and sarcomas.  He joined ROA in summer of 2024.
 
Dr. Wu graduated from the University of California San Diego and received his MD/PhD in the Department of Pharmacology at New York Medical College.  He did his intern year medical training at Greenwich Hospital in Connecticut and completed his radiation oncology residency program at Columbia University Irving Medical Center in New York where he served as Chief Resident.  After his training, he stayed on as a physician scientist faculty at Columbia treating pediatric cancers and adult brain tumors and sarcomas.   In addition to treating patients, he ran a drug deliver program in which his laboratory was dedicated to investigating the use of focused ultrasound to open the blood brain barrier to improve drug delivery.  Through his work he was the PI for two phase I clinical trials utilizing focused ultrasound for patients with relapsed diffuse midline gliomas.  In addition to his research endeavors he was also the Associated Program Director of the residency program.  In 2024, he joined Virginia Tech and Children’s National to continue his research efforts in focused ultrasound as a Tenure Track Assistant Professor of Virginia Tech. Dr. Wu participates in the Children’s Oncology Group and is part of the DIPG/DMG National Brain Tumor Board.
 
Dr. Wu is thrilled to be part of the Inova team and to continue his clinical practice in norther Virginia. He is seeing patients at Inova Schar Cancer Center in Fairfax and is excited to continue to help patients in the DMV area.
