Stella Hetelekidis, MD

Dr. Hetelekidis is the emeritus Chair and Medical Director of the Department for Advanced Radiation Oncology and Proton Therapy at the Inova Schar Cancer Institute, having served in this role from 2005 to 2014. She was also the President of Radiation Oncology Associates from 2008 to 2020 and the medical director for the Inova Fair Oaks Hospital Department of Radiation Oncology from 2020 to 2022.
Before joining Radiation Oncology Associates, she was an Instructor in Radiation Oncology at Harvard Medical School, working at Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Dana Farber Cancer Institute. While she has treated patients with all types of cancer, her clinical focus and academic interests have focused on the treatment of breast and gynecologic cancers. She has authored research papers and book chapters on breast cancer and DCIS, and has enjoyed teaching and mentoring medical students and resident physicians throughout her career.
Dr. Hetelekidis grew up in Rochester, New York and graduated from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, receiving dual Bachelor of Science degrees in Biology, and Humanities and Science. She received her medical degree from the University of Rochester School of Medicine, where she was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society. She completed her Internal Medicine Internship at Harvard Medical School’s Beth Israel Hospital, and a Radiation Oncology Residency at Harvard University’s Joint Center for Radiation Therapy. Dr. Hetelekidis is board certified in Radiation Oncology. For over two decades, she has been recognized as a Top Doctor in Washingtonian and Northern Virginia magazines, and in 2012 as an Influential Woman in Virginia.
Dr. Hetelekidis and her husband have raised three children. Outside of work she enjoys music, cooking, and travel.
